Fintan O'Toole on the future of schools (Tom O'Gorman)

Of all of the advocates of the secular agenda, one of the most bracing has to be Irish Times columnist Fintan O'Toole. Like him or not, he usually uses logical arguments, which are internally consistent. You may not like what he says, but you generally respect the consistency with which he makes his arguments.

The rise of secular McCarthyism (David Quinn)

Joe McCarthy was the US Senator who famously set up a committee to question prominent Americans about their real or imagined membership of the American communist party with a view to driving them out of public life. It is a chapter of American history that is now looked back on in horror, especially by the left, as an appalling attack on basic civil liberties, an example of paranoia unbound.

The day the state interrupted a Bible study group (David Quinn)

A truly amazing story emerges from the US of state intrusion on a home Bible group. Home Bible study groups are extremely common among Evangelical Protestants the world over. Typically those who attend their local church on a Sunday go to someone’s house in mid-week to study and discuss a given section of the bible.

Abuse scandals being used against denominational schools (David Quinn)

The issue of abuse of minors by priests and religious is being used to advance all parts of what we’ll call the secular agenda. A big part of that agenda is to secularise the education system by bringing both primary and secondary schools under State control and to detach them from the various denominations.

The West’s suicidal birth rates (David Quinn)

The demographics of Western nations are so appalling that unless we have a social revolution, and soon, we are doomed. That is not being melodramatic. Last week the European Commission hosted the Brussels Economic Forum and the problem of ageing populations was discussed and the figures couldn’t have been more stark.

Gays who don’t like marriage (David Quinn)

Gays and lesbians are no more monolithic in their views than any other group within the population. With respect to marriage, for example, there are radical gay rights advocates who don’t believe in marriage for anyone. News that a Christian teacher in Britain has been suspended for expressing his objection to a programme he had to attend that promoted gay rights shouldn’t come as a surprise. Equality absolutism is now the official ideology in Britain and it brooks no opposition, not even of the mildest kind.

"If I were asked to design a system for making sure that children's basic needs were met, we would probably come up with something quite similar to the two-parent ideal...The fact that both parents have a biological connection to the child would increase the likelihood that the parents would identify with the child and be willing to sacrifice for that child, and it would reduce the likelihood that either parent would abuse the child.."
